Among America’s young people, godliness contributes to happiness.

From MSNBC.com

An extensive survey by The Associated Press and MTV found that people aged 13 to 24 who describe themselves as very spiritual or religious tend to be happier than those who don’t.

No surprise here to those of us who have worked with teens, or anyone who has attended church regularly for that matter.  Augustine said, “You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are rest-less till they find their rest in you.” Restlessness is never peaceful, so for those that who try to fill “the void” with anything other than God there will never be peace. Since youth is a time of self-seeking, the period of life we fight with who we are, often jumping from one group to the next seeing where we fit in, it’s no wonder experts say it’s the most spiritually-critical time in our lives. The vast majority of people who come to the Lord do so during their teen years, because they are sensitive to who they will become.

As we get older, it’s harder and harder to change our ways. We have more than likely found something else to fill that void us, something that almost fills it completely, but not enough to take away the restlessness.

Faith in Jesus Christ is the key to life, the hope of eternal life is the key to joy, and joy is the key to happiness.

Cook-Out Vs. BBQ

I have a pet peeve, ok, so maybe I have a lot, but today we’re talking about one inparticular. Since it’s Summer, a lot of people are firing up the grill and throwing on some meat and I think it’s time we have a heart to heart.

If you’re cooking hamburgers, hot dogs, brauts, steaks, etc… you are A) Grilling or B) having a Cook-out. If you are cooking barbecue chicken, barbecue brisket, barbecue pork (starting to see a pattern?), ribs, etc… you are having a BBQ.

So what’s the difference?
Believe it or not, there’s a pretty big difference. Grilling is generally done directly over the flame (direct heat) whether it be a gas grill or charcoals. It is called “cooking out” because it is done outside and requires constant supervision, just like cooking something inside. BBQ on the other hand, is slow cooking over indirect heat - that means the heat source/flames are off to one side, not directly touching the food. BBQ also implies their is sauce or rub applied.

If you are cooking some hamburgers and grilling brautwurst you are not having a BBQ, you’re having a cook-out.

New Job!!

dellWOOHOO!!! I’ve started a new job! While Teleflora was good for a time, I am VERY delighted that I’ve found a job that I feels uses my skills, knowledge, and talents a bit better. So far everything’s been a blast, including reuniting with dozens of friends from AOL including my current Dell trainer who just happened to be my AOL trainer and a great mentor while I was there. I will say this, so far everything I’ve learned/seen just reinforces my belief that Dell makes the best PC’s on the market (and those that know me know that’s all I ever buy or recommend). I’ll try to keep you all posted more than I have been…
